One World One Music and The Cathedral unite for Worlds Collide, an immersive & multidisciplinary evening of live performance and storytelling celebrating Georgia O'Keeffe's formative years in Canyon, Texas. The Program: Set in Austin's most unique gallery, the 1-hour program opens with a speaking portion that will bring O'Keeffe's Texas story into focus. Amy Von Lintel, an O'Keeffe scholar and faculty member at West Texas A&M University, will set the historical scene — illuminating O'Keeffe's life and creative development during her time in Canyon. From there, world-class musicians will perform two compositions written expressly for this program while projections of O'Keefe's works that inspired them immerse the audience in the work: I. "Unpainted Pictures" by Kincaid Rabb — a six-movement work imagining O'Keeffe's wartime letters as paintings she never finished II. "O'Keeffe Suite" by Carrie Magin — a five-movement suite drawn from the paintings O'Keeffe made during her Texas years Performed by Dr. Kathleen Bell (oboe), Dr. Conor Bell (bassoon), and Dr. Sarah Rushing (piano). The performance will be followed by a cocktail hour with complimentary drink, a meet-and-greet with performers, and an opportunity to view The Cathedral's current collection, including Sin Fronteras, a group exhibit honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. Amy Von Lintel is Professor of Art History at West Texas A&M University, specializing in modern and contemporary art of the American West. She's the author of two books on Georgia O'Keeffe's Texas years — Georgia O'Keeffe's Wartime Texas Letters and Georgia O'Keeffe Watercolors, 1916–1918 — plus the 2025 release Art at the Crossroads: The Surprising Aesthetics of the Texas Panhandle. She lives in Amarillo, Texas.
Dr. Sarah Rushing is Associate Professor of Piano at West Texas A&M University, where she's taught since 2020. An active performer with her trio projects Triptych and TRIOSARACHOPS, she also chairs the editorial committee of the Music Teachers National Association eJournal. She holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder, Ithaca College, and Louisiana State University.
Dr. Conor Bell is Assistant Professor of Bassoon at West Texas A&M University and principal bassoon of the Amarillo Symphony. A dedicated champion of new music, he commissions and arranges works to expand the bassoon repertoire, and performs with the chamber trio Elicio Winds.
Dr. Kathleen Carter Bell is Assistant Professor of Oboe at West Texas A&M University, holding positions with the Amarillo and Lubbock Symphonies and recently named Artistic Director of Chamber Music Amarillo. A committed advocate for new music, her trio Elicio Winds has received multiple grants for commissioning and recording, including their 2023 album Convergence: Music and Cultural Legacy. She holds DM, MM, and PD degrees from Indiana University.
The program is an immersive chamber music program pairing two world-premiere compositions — Kincaid Rabb's "Unpainted Pictures" and Carrie Magin's "O'Keeffe Suite" — with projections of the Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings that inspired them and firsthand storytelling, tracing her transformative years in Canyon, Texas.
Projections of O'Keeffe's paintings will surround the audience throughout the performance, both inside and outside the venue, transforming the space into a fully immersive environment. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum has granted permission to project select paintings during the performance, a rare and generous collaboration that brings O'Keeffe's original work directly into the concert experience.
