About this event

Arte y Vida: The Cathedral's 7th Anniversary Fiesta & Fundraiser Thursday, October 29 · 7–10 PM · The Cathedral, East Austin Step through the doors of a 1930s East Austin church and find yourself transported to Mexico. For one night only, The Cathedral, voted one of Austin's top three places to see art and home to some of the city's best evening art events, transforms into a vibrant, living ofrenda. Marigolds spill across the space like a work of art, candlelight glows against the arches, and the room comes alive with culture, color, and celebration. El arte: A special anniversary exhibit pairs new work by founder Mónica Ceniceros with pieces from Mexico City–based artist Melina Garza, shown together for the first time. A silent auction features hand-painted ceramic skulls by 20 local women and nonbinary artists from The Cathedral's collective and a raffle will offer an opportunity to win one of Mónica Ceniceros' pieces from her exhibit. La vida: A life-size community ofrenda by Teoxochitl Designs, a performance by Miguel St. Michael, and a special DJ set by Gran Moreno set the tone all night. Sana Sana Taqueria serves a creative take on traditional fare, with pollo en mole tacos, calabaza tatemada tacos, and pan de muerto, alongside a curated complimentary bar. Beautiful complimentary rituals like limpias & custom poems will send you home ready for the new season. Why it matters: For seven years, The Cathedral has championed local women and nonbinary artists, growing its collective from 14 to 40 and helping artists earn more than $750,000 through its artist-first model. As The Cathedral's only fundraiser of the year, Arte y Vida keeps that model alive and the doors open to the community. Come dressed to celebrate, bring an offering for the ofrenda, and join in honoring those who came before us while lifting up the artists shaping what's next. $75 per ticket, including food, bar & so much more. All proceeds go toward The Cathedral’s mission of fair pay for the women and nonbinary artists it champions.
