Join The Cathedral October 29th, 7–10 p.m., as they celebrate seven years of championing women and nonbinary artists with Arte y Vida — an evening honoring memory, art, and community, and their only fundraiser of the year. The evening's arte takes center stage with a solo exhibit debut by Founder Mónica Ceniceros, a silent auction of hand-painted ceramic skulls from 20 artists in the collective — all local women and nonbinary artists — and the opportunity to view of The Cathedral's current collection. The vida, or life, fills the room through a life-size community ofrenda designed by Teoxochitl Designs, a live performance by Miguel St. Michael, a special DJ set by Gran Moreno, and traditional food with a creative spin from Sana Sana Taqueria — pollo en mole tacos, calabaza tatemada tacos, and pan de muerto — alongside a curated, complimentary bar. Why It Matters: Every ticket and every bid goes straight back to the artists who make The Cathedral what it is. In seven years, the gallery has grown its collective from 14 to 40 local women and nonbinary artists and put roughly $450,000 directly into artists' pockets — nearly $90,000 more than a traditional 50-50 gallery commission structure would have paid out. As a small, independently owned business, the last few years haven't been easy, and nights like this one are what keep The Cathedral's artist-first commission structure alive, keep its doors open to local artist-forward programming, and let it partner with other local arts organizations to offer affordable space for their events too. Guests are invited to dress to celebrate, bring an offering for the ofrenda, and join in honoring those who came before while lifting up the artists shaping what's next.
